MFF Ltd and Melita Blu Sea Limited form part of the Ebcon Group of Companies which is a family business operating since 1921. MFF Ltd was established in 1993 with the aim of producing 500 metric tonnes of Gilthead Sea Bream (Sparus aurata) and European Sea Bass (Dicentrarchus labrax) for export annually. Melita Blu Sea Ltd was established to assist in the Bluefin Tuna (Thunnus thynnus) operations carried out by MFF Ltd. MFF Ltd is a very successful fish farming company with over 14 years of farming experience. The farm site was initially set up in Marsaxlokk Port in Malta. In 1994 the production unit was moved to an offshore site in the South East of Malta, from where 500 tonnes of sea bream and sea bass were produced annually for export. In the year 2000, MFF Ltd started looking forward to diversify its production capabilities through the adoption of new species, in particular the Bluefin Tuna (Thunnus thynnus) . A Bluefin Tuna farm was set up in 2002 and from then onwards the company has kept up a regular annual supply of Bluefin Tuna to Japan. This operates under the Melita Tuna division. During the last five years, Melita Tuna has concentrated on improving its operations and optimising the product quality whilst exploring new potential developments in the sector. In fact, since 2003, as a result of our successful operations, we have been working together with professional leaders in the fishing and marketing industry who have committed themselves towards our Company's operations. The French group of fishermen who have been working with MFF Ltd for the past five years have generations and generations of experience in catching Bluefin Tuna. We have very good business relationship with European and American buyers of Bluefin Tuna who also purchase our other farmed products for segments of the European market. The Japanese buyers with whom we have formed a good part of our market share for a significant number of years such that they can be compared, in term of recognition, with other major companies in Japan. These companies are involved in the production of value added products as well as fresh and frozen products. These companies sell our fresh and frozen products in the well established markets throughout Japan and the USA. |
